It is also very popular with local Cypriots. We then move on to Ayios Lazaros Church. The magnificent church was built by Emperor Leo VI, in the 9th century. Restoration carried out in the 17th century, keeping faithfully to the original plan, and the church can be called one of the finest examples of Byzantine architecture. The tomb of St. Lazaros, who after he was raised from the dead in Bethany by Christ, came to Cyprus and lived here for another thirty years and was consecrated as the Bishop of Kition by St. Barnabas and St. Mark, can be seen under the sanctuary. We will then move on to Nicosia where we will visit: Archbishop Palace. Built in the early fifties and much fighting took place there during the invasion of 1974, when it came close to being completely destroyed. We suggest a Group Collection to cover transfer drivers, and hotel staff of €20.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % add on.
