Discover the ancient past of Rhodes, when you venture out into Rhodes Old Town, that dates back to the Trojan War. Stroll around the narrow streets, visit the Palace of the Grand Masters or marvel at the many Ottoman mosques and prehistoric temples that grace the city’s walls. The harbour here was once dominated by the great colossus – one of the seven wonders of the ancient world! Combine this history with the curio shops that sell leather, ceramics, rugs and delicate jewellery and you have the perfect day of exploring!
Unlike many of its neighbouring Greek Islands, the architecture in Rhodes plays host to a mix of influences from the Romans and Turkish through to the Italians and Byzantine Greek cultures. However, many solo travellers are drawn to the island’s beaches. The east coast is a ribbon of uninterrupted sands and where most of the popular resorts are located. Explore the quiet coves in Kolymbia and Kalithea or laze on the sleepy Blue Flag beach of Pefkos; alternatively chillout at the more vibrant town of Lindos!
