The United States of America is a big, bold, friendly and surprising country to visit. Comprising fifty states, which are situated mostly in central North America, between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, bordered by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south, this is a country of contrasts. The state of Alaska is in the northwest of the continent, with Canada to the east and Russia to the west across the Bering Strait. Along with the state of Hawaii, an archipelago in the mid-Pacific, the USA also has several territories in the Caribbean and Pacific.
Highlights of the USA include glitzy Las Vegas, the largest adult entertainment centre in the world, within reach of the breathtaking Grand Canyon National Park and Death Valley. Relatively nearby lies Los Angeles, the second largest city in the USA and the largest metropolitan centre on the west coast. Comprising many different communities, including Hollywood, home of the moviemakers, and Beverly Hills, home of the movie stars, LA has a pleasant subtropical climate with many miles of white-sandy beaches and the famous ‘California Surf’, as well as the spectacular coastline of Big Sur.
Be tempted by Orlando, where Disney World and Universal Studios vying for attention, or the bright lights of the Big Apple; New York. Yosemite National Park and Yellowstone National Parks offer visitors the chance to spot abundant wildlife, while New Orleans blends Spanish, French, Afro-American and Caribbean influences to form an exotic, jazz-loving city at the mouth of the Mississippi River. There is simply so much to see and do; one visit is never enough!
